The Origin of the Ozarks

The term _Ozarks_ is most likely derived from a phonetic rendering in English of the French phrase "aux Arcs", by which French colonialists would've meant "aux Arkansas", i.e. the trading post at Arkansas Post on the Mississippi River. Branson Missouri is nestled in the Ozarks.
